A Voice from the Eastern Door

The Native North American Travelling College was the place to be Sunday August 18th. Celebrating their Annual Friendship Day, the NNATC worked hard to pull off a celebration aimed at sharing our dances, songs, stories and food for Akwesasronon and visitors alike.
The event was open to everyone, with entertainment and guests travelling from all over Turtle Island to attend. The Friendship Day began at 11am and continued throughout the day.
The NNATC Board of Directors honored long-time employee Joann Swamp for forty years of dedication, commitment and expertise; Joann started as an intern and is now acting director. As a gift to honor her dedication, the directors presented Joann with a handmade quilt made by Cyndee Fox.
There was plenty of live entertainment, such as the Crosswinds band, Brother Bears, Hotinonshonni Cultural Youth Group Hoop Dancers and one of the best story tellers across the Confederacy - Perry Ground. Many local vendors and artists set up shop outside, while NNATC hosted their famous Pie Bingo inside. There was plenty to do for the kids, with several different activities set up by Iakwashatste Youth Fitness.
All in all, the event was fun for the whole family, whether it was winning at pie bingo, hearing some live music, buying from local vendors, eating delicious food or making new friends. The Native North American Travelling College did not disappoint with this year's Annual Friendship Day.
