BARBARA ANN LAZORE

AKWESASNE- Barbara Ann Lazore "Wahniserohkta", 64, of 9 Conners Road, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the Champlain Valley Physician's Hospital, with her loving family by her side.

Barbara was born on January 3, 1955 in Syracuse, daughter of Jack Lazore and the late Dorothy Jocko Kennedy. She attended schools in Akwesasne and Cornwall, ON. She married Michael Papineau, Sr. on February 15, 1975 at the St. Regis Catholic Church. The marriage ended in divorce.

Barbara was a homemaker and took great pride in raising her family and formerly worked at the Mohawk Bingo Palace. She was known as "Tota Bingo" and loved playing bingo and going to the casino. She enjoyed watching the Price is Right, Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune and Law and Order. She loved her Tim Horton's coffee and Canadian Pepsi. But most of all she cherished her time with her children and grandchildren, and her cat "Baby".

Barbara is survived by her companion of 27 years, Philip Lapointe; three children, Tanya Papineau (Kevin Carle) of Akwesasne; Michael Jr., and Louise Papineau of Kanatakon; and John Papineau (Charlene Lazore) of Akwesasne; and 13 grandchildren, Tatyana, Peter, Mason, Makenly, Makyrie, Kawisenhawi, Lexie, Miya, Lukkas, A'Rihya, Lainen, Arissa and Leighella.

She is also survived by her father, Jack and Louise Lazore of Tsi Snaihne; four sisters, Valerie Lazore of Tsi Snaihne; Eva and Vaughn Adams of Tsi Snaihne; Viola Lazore of Syracuse; and Rowena and George General of Akwesasne; five brothers, Sam Lazore of Akwesasne; Noah Lazore of Syracuse; Raymond Kennedy of Syracuse; Jonathan Lazore of Tsi Snaihne; and Fred and Stephanie Lazore of Tsi Snaihne; her godchildren, Lacey Pierce, Shannon Michael Buckshot, Matthew Mathias Buckshot and Marcey Thompson; her aunts and uncles, Paul and Margaret Lazore; Maggie Bay, and Cecilia Lazore; Pete and Dennis Jocko; Wilma and Paul Angus; Charles and Mary Jane Lazore; Agnes Lazore; and Boileau and Gladys Lazore; her chosen sisters Debbie Jocko; and Rosemary "Elley" Thompson; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides her mother Dorothy, Barbara was also predeceased by her sister Delores Lazore; her brother John Lazore in infancy; her maternal grandparents, Mary (Ma) and Louie Jocko; her paternal grandparents Mike and Jane Lazore; Tommy and Bessie Lazore; Michael Lazore and Elizabeth Lazore; her uncles, Albert, Angus, Phillip and Norman Jocko; her aunt Viola Jocko; and her chosen brothers Rocky King and James Jocko.

Friends called at Akwesasne Homemakers in Tsi Snaihne from Monday until Wednesday morning when a Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Andrew Amyot celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Kanatakon.
