A Voice from the Eastern Door
From the family of the late Louis Levi Oakes
(Mohawk Code Talker of Akwesasne)
The family wishes to acknowledge the many expressions of sympathy and gestures of kindness shown to us following our loss. We offer our heartfelt thanks to the many friends, neighbors and well-wishers who attended the wake, service and burial and who provided emotional support for us at this difficult time. For those who telephoned, travelled long distances, sent floral tributes, cards and messages of condolences, we are truly grateful.
A special word of thanks to Dr. Horn, the management, nurses and staff of Iakhihsohtha Nursing Home for their kindness and respect shown, at all times; to Dwight Bero and the American Legion Post 1479, for their help and support; to the Homemakers in Snye; the soldiers of Fort Drum for their military support; to US. Congressional Representative Elise Stefanik for her continued support; to Canadian Politician Marc Miller for his support; to New York State Senator Betty Little for her support; to Shirley Phillips and Tanya Oakes for their combined support; to family friend Buck Cook for his special radio announcement; to family friend Wally Ransom for services he rendered; to all first responders, police, fire and E.M.S. for their assistance; to Honor Flight member Cynthia Nadeau; to all of the motorcycle riders that rode in his honor; to all those who participated in the Mass, especially Fr. Pastores, the readers, singers and musicians; and finally, Chad W. Green of Donaldson Funeral Home, for his sensitive and professional handling of arrangements.
To those who helped in any way, your contribution made our loss more bearable. As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as an expression of our deepest gratitude.
From his surviving children: Diane, Louis, Ray, Wally, Dora, Debbie and Joe.
