Massena, Salmon River lax play to wins over SL-LP, Potsdam, Plattsburgh, SLC, OFA

Another week of varsity lacrosse action has Salmon River (4-3) in third place in boys Section 10, one game ahead of Massena (4-4).

In girls Section 10, Massena (6-0) is undefeated in the top spot and Salmon sits in third at 4-2.

On Friday, May 3, Massena defeated visiting Saranac Lake-Lake Placid 11-5. They got up to a 4-3 halftime lead and then reeled off four unanswered goals in the third stanza.

Caleb D’Arienzo led Massena with three goals. Luke Von Borstel scored twice. Nick Morrell (five assists), Ben Rogers (two assists), Zach LaBarge, Ryan Letham, Jack Campbell and Miles Beeson all scored twice. Logan Premo made nine saves. For SL-LP, Sam Donaldson scored twice. Logan Brown with seven saves and Hugo Hobson with four saves split netminder detail.

The same day, the Salmon River boys lost by just two goals to hosts Canton by a 15-13 final tally. The Shamrocks trailed 11-4 at the half. They rallied for five goals at the end of the fourth stanza, but were unable to come back.

Skylar David scored five goals with an assist for SRC, four of which were consecutive in the fourth quarter. Cobie Cree scored four times. Rarennenhawi Cook-Francis scored three times with a helper. Ronerahtenen Mitchell scored once. Talon Thompson helped set up one play. Ryan Oakes with four saves and Falcon Cook with three each spent time in the goalie crease.

For Canton, Cayden Emerson scored five goals, John Mahoney (three assists), Aiden Knight and Aiden Hoose each scored three. Nick Beldock with 10 saves and Hayden Todd with one split goalie detail.

On Wednesday, May 1, the Massena Lady Raiders defeated Potsdam 15-12. They traded goals through the opening quarters with Massena gaining a one-goal advantage for an 8-7 score at the half. Lindsey Ladue and Julia Blair each scored four goals with single assists. Aryssa Hopps and Katelyn Kennedy each scored twice with one assist. Nova LeGrow, Claire Tyo and Sophia Mitchell each netted singletons. Skarlet Wilson made three saves. For Potsdam, Erica Sloan led the offense with three goals and three assists. Alana McDonald (one assist) and Josie Bruso each scored twice. Olivia Scott made nine saves and Julia Basford made four in the goalie crease.

On Wednesday, May 1, the Shamrocks took a 22-11 win over Ogdensburg at home. Keldren King (five assists) and Treyton Mitchell (one assist) each had big games with seven goals each. Cobie Cree and Trevan David each scored three times with single assists. Crayton Cree and Casey Oakes scored the other goals. Falcon Cook with two saves and Ryan Cook with 12 saves each spent time backstopping for SRC.

For OFA, Isaac Testani scored four times with five helpers. Carson Wescott scored three times. Noah Strader scored twice. Nick Snyder made seven saves.

The Salmon River girls played Canton on May 3 and lost 16-3. Krysten Thompson scored early in the first while down 2-0, assisted by Meg Martin. Jadie Burns and Grace King scored later on. Paige Glasgow made six saves. Morgan Whitman led Canton with five goals. Etta Coburn scored four times. Camryn Sipher made six saves.

On Wednesday May 1, the Salmon River boys narrowly lost to Canton in a 13-12 overtime bout at Fort Covington. Salmon River initially took control of the game, pulling ahead 2-0 less than three minutes in. They increased that to 3-1 after the opening frame. Canton scored the opening goal of the second quarter, but the ‘Rocks answered with three goals in a row to build a 6-2 lead in five minutes. The teams swapped pairs of goals, and with SRC ahead 8-4, Canton punched in one more to leave the scoreboard at 8-5 at halftime. Salmon scored three times in the third quarter, followed by one from the Bears, to make the score 12-6 going into the closing stanza. Canton came back to the field to score four goals in less than four minutes. They then punched in two more in the last two minutes of regulation, forcing an extra frame. Eben Thrasher netted the game winner with 1:34 left in OT, assisted by John Mahoney.

Keldren King led the Shamrocks with five goals and a helper. Treyton Mitchell scored four goals with two assists. Trevan David had two goals and three assists. Cobie Cree fashioned one goal. Logan Lebehn set up one play. Ryan Oakes turned aside 14 shots.

The same day, Massena built up a 5-1 halftime lead and downed Plattsburgh by a 13-3 final score at home. Zach LaBarge paced the Raiders with five goals and an assist. Nick Morrell scored four times and set up three plays. Ben Rogers (two assists) and Luke Von Borstel (one assist) each netted singletons. Caleb D’Arienzo tallied three assists. Jacob Thompson had one helper. Hayden Hoerner with 15 saves and Logan Premo with four saves each spent time in the net.

Michael Graves scored twice for Plattsburgh and Kai Birtz picked up the other goal. Ethan Vaugh fashioned one assist. Joey Jamison with 10 saves and Liam Sullivan with two saves each covered the net.

On Sunday, April 28, Salmon River beat St. Lawrence Central 11-5. The Larries scored two opening markers, but the ‘Rocks stepped up and tied the game 2-all.

SLC pushed ahead by one goal before the end of the opening frame. The Shamrocks tied the game early in the second but SLC quickly answered to return to a one-goal lead. The Shamrocks then took over and ended the half with a four-goal burst, leading 7-4 going into the third quarter. SRC scored that frame’s two goals. They allowed one more from the Larries in the fourth and fired in two more before the buzzer.

Trevan David led Salmon with four goals. Rarennenhawi Cook-Francis scored twice with an assist. Stone Chubb, Keldren King, Tahnaokata Elijah, Skylar David and Khyler Johnson fashioned solo markers. Cayden Sunday helped set up two plays.

On Saturday, April 27, Salmon downed Plattsburgh 14-6. Keldron King (three assists) and Treyton Mitchell each scored five goals. Tahnaokata Elijah (one assist), Tyrell Mitchell and Casey Oakes all scored once. Kyler Johnson tallied two assists and Skylar David had one. Kyren Lazore made seven saves. For Plattsburgh, Michael Graves had two goals and two helpers. Joey Jamison made 13 saves.
