A Voice from the Eastern Door

The Center for Research on Health and Nursing (CRHN) organized and held a free youth paint night, on Friday April 26th. This was CRHN's way of giving back to the community and allowing them to come and do research in Akwesasne in regard to the high cancer rates in the community.
Delia McDonald, one of the researchers who is from Akwesasne, stated "We had money in our funding to host this event, as a way to give back to the community. We did a little presentation on research, before the painting began. I had fun organizing the event."
Tammy King, owner of Bee Creative Art Studio, hosted the youth paint night in her establishment. With the Center for Research on Health and Nursing covering the cost of the paint class, the young women were able to take the class for free. A light meal was also provided. Everyone enjoyed themselves and became an artist for the night. Although this was a one-time event by the Center for Research on Health and Nursing, Tammy hosts paint night all year round. All you have to do is contact her to set up a paint night for yourself or for a special group.
