A Voice from the Eastern Door

Two Artists Team Up to Put on One of Akwesasne's First Art Sale of The Year

By: Jaclyn Hall

Throughout the week of April 21st to 27th, two artists, Bruce Boots and Victoria Ransom, put on a week-long art sale. The art sale took place at the Akwesasne Mini Mart, inside the vacant store front located on the right side of the building. Both of the Artists are from Akwesasne and have built quite the reputation for themselves as talented artists. Although many know who they are, not many have the opportunity to come and check out all of the individual's artistic work. To be able to look at all of the artwork put on display, whether it be prints or original is a sight to see in itself. Bruce Boots artwork alone, filled up the room with his fine artwork. Victoria Ransom, who is a new mother, took a huge step setting up one of her first art sales as a new parent.

If they choose to do another art sale in the future maybe more community members can show some support by helping to get the information out there, going to show your support, even if you can't buy a piece of art just yet. Getting to know the artists before buying one of their art pieces, make the art piece so much more meaningful in the end.

There are multiple ways of helping to support our local artists, especially when they take the initiative to set up a pop-up shop, so that more people may experience their art work. More community members can try their best to stop in and say "hi" and acknowledge their hard work as artists in Akwesasne. It's exactly the same as supporting our local businesses, except for the fact that the artists themselves are the business and when you purchase their art work you are purchasing a part of them and their creativity.

If you missed your chance to stop in the art sale, there is plenty of photos showcasing the art work that is available for sale, which you can also find on social media. If you spot something you like, you can contact either Bruce Boots or Victoria Ransom to get the price and availability of the art work. Bruce can be contacted by phone at 518-651-9107 or by email at [email protected]. Victoria can be reached by email at [email protected].
