A Voice from the Eastern Door
March 2019 Field Trip
(April 23, 2019) On Friday, March 29th, Northern Borders PTECH students traveled to Elderwood of Uihlein and the new Adirondack Health Medical Fitness Center in Lake Placid. Staff from both facilities discussed career pathways available at and services offered by their respective facility.
The staff at Elderwood provided lunch to PTECH students and faculty, showed a few videos to the students to introduce them to the positions they are currently hiring for, discussed the services provided by Elderwood, and were very interested in the pathways that the students were currently in for education and careers. Elderwood provides subacute care and rehabilitation, and long-term care and skilled nursing services along with specialty programs that include palliative care, respite care, and Seasons® Memory Care.
After the students visited Elderwood, they walked across the street and were able to tour the Adirondack Health Medical Fitness Center facility. This new, world-class facility allows Adirondack Health's staff to provide preventative care through fitness, rehabilitation and wellness programs. The students enjoyed seeing the indoor pool and fitness center and hearing about the types of careers available at the Medical Fitness Center.
The students and staff at Northern Borders Academy/PTECH would like to thank the staff at Elderwood by Uihlein and the Adirondack Health Medical Fitness Center for their time and introducing them to careers that aren't too far from home.

January 2019 Field Trip
(April 18, 2019) In keeping with the mission of exposing Northern Borders PTECH students to health careers in the area, students traveled to Saranac Lake, NY on Friday, January 18th to visit the St. Joseph's Addiction and Treatment Center. Students had the opportunity to tour the facility, and spoke with staff about the types of services that St. Joseph's offers and the careers that the facility offers. St. Joseph's provides a full continuum of care, including inpatient rehabilitation, Veterans residential care, outpatient treatment, adolescent residential treatment, and aftercare.
The trip to Saranac Lake included a stop at North Country Community College for lunch, a campus tour, and conversations with faculty about educational pathways. PTECH currently partners with North Country's Malone Campus for the students' transition to college classes.
The students and staff at Northern Borders Academy would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Joseph's and North Country Community College for their help with making their January outing a huge success!
