Snye Recreation Hosts Annual Easter Festivities

By: Jaclyn Hall

The Snye Recreation Committee outdid themselves once again; hosting one of the most highly anticipated Easter events in Akwesasne. The festivities went on throughout the two-day weekend on Saturday, April 13th to Sunday, April 14th. The first day of festivities consisted of pie bingo at 2:00 pm and the Adult Bonnet/Cap Contest, which took place during intermission. On Saturday evening the Family Trivia event took place at 6 pm. There was plenty of fun to be had by people of all ages throughout the first day of activities.

Sunday, had plenty of eager children ready to hunt for eggs, rain or shine. Beginning the day's activities was the Children's Bonnet/Cap Contest at 1:30 pm. The Easter Egg hunt was set to start at 2:00 pm, but due to the freezing rain, the Easter Egg Hunt was moved up a little. The weather did not deter anyone from coming out and enjoying the activities. There were plenty of happy children, going home with Easter Baskets and door prizes.

Mae Green, one of the organizers for the Snye Recreation stated, "This year we changed this up a bit. We wanted to see if it helped run things more smoothly. There are more and more people coming every year, so we have to change things up to accommodate everyone. We changed some of the age ranges, and where registration takes place. All in all, we had another successful year doing the Easter activities."

Anyone who did not get a chance to participate in this past weekend's activities, will have their chance again next year. Luckily for the community, there are always activities going on throughout Akwesasne, during any holiday or occasion. Just keep an eye out for upcoming activities throughout Akwesasne.
