Salmon River comes out ahead in girls hockey game against Massena; boys down Malone

The Salmon River Lady Shamrocks and Massena Lady Raiders went head to head with the ‘Rocks coming out on top. Meanwhile, the boys team bested Malone in a recent bout.

Massena and Salmon River met at Massena Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 2. The Raiders came out to an early lead with Katy Underwood scoring the first goal of the game 3:16 into regulation. Hannah Johnson tied the game on a power play after taking a pass from Rylee Garrow and Madison Collette just over four minutes later. Makhia Snyder connected to push SRC ahead by one 5:17 in the second period with helpers from Olivia Moulton and Talynn White. Collette scored what would hold up as the game winner with an assist from Myranda Collette 9:54 in the final stanza. Kylee Letham posted Massena’s second goal with 1:59 left on the clock. Johnson scored an empty-net insurance goal with 47 second remaining. Salmon River netminder Carli Cartier made 23 saves. Mackenzie Garrow turned aside 20 shots for Massena.

Saturday, Dec. 29, Salmon River 3, Franklin Academy 1 - Malone took an early lead but Salmon River countered with three unanswered goals in the game played in Fort Covington. Vail St. Hilaire notched FA’s only marker 2:09 into the contest with assists from Whitney St. Hilaire and Courtney Boyea. Rylee Garrow scored just under five minutes later, unassisted. Brycelan Sunday scored the game-winner 4:21 into the second period. Taylor Swamp punched in the insurance goal with 3:51 remaining in the middle frame on a play set up by Johnson. Sierra Norton made 13 saves for Salmon River. Michelle White stood tall in the FA net with 44 saves.

Tuesday, Dec. 18, Salmon River 7, Plattsburgh 0 - Autumn Benedict scored the only necessary goal. Insurance markers came from Benedict, Sunday (one assist), Moulton, Garrow (one assist), Myranda Collette (two assists) and Johnson. Madison Collette helped set up two plays. Single assists came from Ieneratokwas Swamp and Alexis Seymour. Cartier denied 23 scoring attempts.

Friday, Jan. 4, Ogdensburg 2, Salmon River 0 - Nolan O’Donnell and Jackson Troiano scored the pair of goals for OFA in Fort Covington. Preston Hemlock made 14 saves for Salmon River.

Wednesday, Dec. 19, Salmon River 4, Franklin Academy 1 - On their home ice in Fort Covington, the Shamrocks fashioned a 4-1 lead before giving up a power play goal later in the game. Cameron Cartier and Kaden Conners each had a goal and an assist. Jared Showen and Trevan David also scored. Tim Cook assisted two of the plays. Jalen Cook, Carter Benedict and Connor Lewis all had single assists. Hemlock made nine saves. Trent King scored for FA, assisted by Seth Lockwood and Jordan St. Hilaire. Matt Delisle had a big night in the net with 41 saves.
