Enbridge Inc., a North American energy delivery leader, was established in 1949. Enbridge transports, distributes and generates energy, with diversified assets that include a balance between crude oil and natural gas, as well as an expanding renewables business.
Enbridge has an enterprise value of C$166 billion and includes C$27 billion in secured projects and another C$48 billion in potential projects. According to Enbridge - initiatives that will support economic growth, job creation, increased tax revenue and community vitality across North America.
According to Enbridge - their stable and predictable revenue stream (more than 95% of cash flows secured under long-term contract or similar arrangements), Enbridge expects to offer an attractive annual dividend growth rate of 10% through 2020. Enbridge manages several investment options that trade on the New York and/or Toronto stock exchanges, including Enbridge Inc. (ENB), Enbridge Energy Partners, L.P. (EEP), Enbridge Energy Management, L.L.C. (EEQ), and Enbridge Income Fund (ENF).
Headquartered in Calgary, Canada with major offices in Houston, Edmonton, Toronto, Duluth, MN, Superior, WI, and Chatham, ON, Enbridge has a workforce of 15,400 people, primarily in the U.S. and Canada.
Operations: Crude Oil and Liquids Pipelines
Enbridge operates the world’s longest and most complex crude oil and liquids transportation system, with approximately 17,018 miles (27,388 km) of active crude pipeline across North America - including 8,624 miles (13,879 km) of active pipe in the United States, and 8,394 miles (13,509 km) of active pipe in Canada.
Enbridge delivers an average of 2.9 million barrels of crude oil and liquids every day.
They transport 28% of the crude oil produced in North America.
They transport about 62% of U.S.-bound Canadian production.
Enbridge accounts for 29% of total U.S. crude oil imports.
Operations: Natural Gas Pipelines, Processing and Storage
Enbridge has an ownership stake in about 65,250 miles (105,000 km) of gathering lines, about 25,500 miles (41,000 km) of transmission lines, and about 101,700 miles (163,600 km) of distribution lines - a total of about 192,500 miles (310,000 km) of natural gas and NGL pipelines - across North America and the Gulf of Mexico. These totals include the pipeline network of DCP Midstream (a 50-50 joint venture between Enbridge Inc. and Phillips 66) and other joint ventures.
Enbridge transports 22% of all-natural gas consumed in the United States.
They transport more than 18.9 Bcf/d (billion cubic feet per day) of natural gas.
They have 3.1 Bcf/d (billion cubic feet per day) of natural gas processing capacity.
They have 159.3 Bcf (billion cubic feet) of networking storage through their U.S. transmission operations.
DCP Midstream is the largest producer of natural gas liquids and the largest natural gas processor in the U.S.
Operations: Natural Gas Distribution
Enbridge is Canada’s largest natural gas distribution provider, with about 3.7 million retail customers in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and New York State.
They distribute more than 2.5 Bcf/d (billion cubic feet per day) of natural gas to power industry, heat and cool homes, and cook meals.
Union Gas operates a network of 66,088 km (41,065 miles) of gas distribution mainlines and service lines, and 4,857 km (3,018 miles) of transmission pipelines.
Enbridge Gas Distribution operates more than 51,450 miles (82,800 km) of gas distribution mainlines and service lines.
Enbridge has about 278.7 Bcf (billion cubic feet) of networking storage through their operations at the Union Gas Dawn Hub and Enbridge Gas Distribution locations in southwest Ontario.
Renewable Energy and Power Generation
Enbridge has committed more than $7.8 billion in capital to renewable energy and power transmission projects (currently in operation or under construction).
Enbridge’s renewable energy projects (either operating or under construction) have the capacity to generate 3,639 megawatts (MW) gross, or 1,748 MW net, of zero-emission energy.
Their renewable projects generate enough green energy to meet the electricity needs of 696,577 homes, based on net generation figures for projects in operation or under construction.
Community Investment
According to Enbridge, in 2017, they invested more than US$19.1 million (nearly C$23.9 million) on community-strengthening initiatives across North America aligned to their three focus areas (health and safety, environment and community).
In 2016, Enbridge invested more than $1.47 million in our Safe Community program - bringing the total investment since the program’s inception to more than $10.7 million.
In 2017, our various employee-led United Way campaigns raised US$7.2 million in fundraising events, employee pledges and matching corporate contributions.
More than 700 of Enbridge employees participated in Enbridge’s Our Community Partners program in 2017 by volunteering over 12,000 hours for causes they care about; Enbridge supported their efforts with more than C$212,000 in volunteer grants to community organizations in Canada and the U.S.
Enbridge’s Helping Hands in Action program awarded nearly C$335,000 in grants, C$821,000 in matching gifts and completed 356 projects focused on improving quality of life in communities.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
According to Enbridge, in 2017, they staged more than 365 drills, exercises and equipment deployment events, in all regions where they operate, to test and sharpen their emergency preparedness.
Through 2017, they have provided emergency response training to 3,271 of their employees and direct contractors, including in-depth Incident Command System (ICS) training.
Enbridge’s free, online Emergency Responder Education Program (EREP) training program was launched in 2012, about 2,900 emergency responders, Enbridge employees and other interested parties in the U.S. and Canada have completed the training.
Indigenous Engagement
According to Enbridge, in 2017, Enbridge purchased more than C$216 million in goods and services from Indigenous suppliers in Canada and the U.S.
In 2017, they invested more than C$1.7 million to support educational, safety and cultural initiatives within Indigenous communities.
According to Enbridge, in the course of their projects and operations, they regularly deal with more than 200 Indigenous Nations and groups in Canada, and 30 federally recognized Native American Tribes in the U.S.
Their supply chain group has more than 930 qualified Indigenous business in a company-wide database.
In 2017, Enbridge provided Indigenous awareness training to 457 of our employees and contractors in Canada and the U.S.
As part of Enbridge’s engagement on the Line 3 Replacement Program in Canada, they have secured 55 agreements, representing a majority of Indigenous Nations and groups directly along the L3RP corridor.
According to Enbridge, as of Q2 2018, the L3RP in Canada and the U.S. has created about C$87 million in Indigenous economic opportunities, a total that includes contracting, labor, business development and training initiatives with Indigenous businesses and groups; they are currently targeting the creation of a total of C$250 million in Indigenous economic benefits through the end of construction.
System Fitness and Leak Detection
Enbridge spent CAD$1.95 billion in 2017 on programs that help them maintain the fitness of their systems across our operations in Canada and the U.S.
They had eleven (11) reportable spills on our crude oil and liquids systems in 2017, compared with 6 in 2016.
Enbridge spilled 8,394 barrels of crude oil in 2017, from a record delivery total of nearly 3.75 billion barrels.
Over the past decade, from 2008 through 2017 inclusive, Enbridge transported more than 22 billion barrels of oil, with a safe delivery record of 99.99966%.
Enbridge completed 26,719 pipeline inspections on their liquids and natural gas pipelines and distribution networks in 2017.
They carried out 349 in-line inspections in 2017 across our liquids and natural gas systems.
They carried out 1,769 preventative maintenance digs in 2017 across our liquids and natural gas systems.
In 2017, Enbridge Gas Distribution and Union Gas conducted leak surveys on more than 25,000 kilometers (15,500 miles) of gas distribution mains in Ontario and Quebec and surveyed more than 690,000 customer service lines.

Stakeholder Engagement
By the end of 2016, Enbridge had trained more than 200 employee ambassadors as part of our Emergency Response Ambassador Program in the U.S.
In 2016, Enbridge employee ambassadors in Canada carried out more than 340 visits with municipal officials, first responders and 9-1-1 dispatchers near our liquids pipelines.
In 2016, as part of their L3RP stakeholder outreach in the U.S., they provided emergency response training to 845 local emergency responders, at 49 training events, along their project right-of-way.
Research, Development and Innovation
According to Enbridge, in 2017, they invested CAD$15.2 million on advanced leak detection systems that strengthen our ability to identify small pipeline leaks early and respond more quickly and effectively.
In 2017, their Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) group was involved in about 100 projects focusing on innovation, primarily to improve pipeline safety and fitness.
Climate Change, Emissions Reduction and Energy Efficiency
Cumulatively, between 1995 and the end of 2015, Enbridge Gas Distribution’s customer energy efficiency programs saved about 10.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas and reduced carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 19.4 million tons - according to Enbridge, the equivalent of taking about 3.8 million cars off the road for a year.
Enbridge Gas Distribution’s customer energy efficiency plan, from 2015 through 2020, has committed about $360 million to target 7 million cumulative cubic meters of natural gas savings, reducing customers’ CO2 emissions by about 13.4 tons.
Enbridge Gas Distribution has the largest natural gas vehicle (NGV) fleet in Canada, and by the end of 2016, Enbridge Gas had converted 628 of its 841 fleet vehicles to run on natural gas
Supply Chain Management
In 2016, Enbridge’s Major Projects group purchased about 324,000 tons of steel pipe, about 96% of which was made from recycled steel.
In 2016, Enbridge purchased about $8.1 billion of goods and services from about 12,000 suppliers; about 56.6% of this total was spent on Canadian suppliers, and 43.4% was spent on U.S. suppliers.
Occupational Health and Safety
According to Enbridge, their rates of 0.55 recordable injuries per 200,000 employee hours worked and 0.05 lost-days injuries per 200,000 employee hours worked were the lowest they have been since they began tracking them.
Enbridge employees spent about 99,345 hours in 2016 building their safety knowledge and skills.
