Massena and Salmon River girls volleyball teams wrapped up their regular seasons on winning notes and are both headed for playoffs.
The Shamrocks played their final regular season contest on Wednesday, Oct. 24 against Potsdam. The scores were 25-10, 19-25, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-17.
Mary Gray served up 21 points with 40 sets and 11 assists. Rylie Gray (10 kills, one block) and Tyana Benedict (seven kills, one block) notched 14 service points each. Kylee Smoke tallied 49 sets, 10 assists and three kills. Kendall Jock ended up with eight points, four kills and a block. Kania Swamp contributed seven points and three kills.
On Monday, Oct. 22 at home, the 'Rocks downed the Brushton-Moira Panthers 3-1. The scores were 25-10, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-21. Jheri White paced Salmon River with a match high of 15 service points with an ace. Morgan Jock and Mary Gray (six kills) each served up eight points. Gray also had 45 sets, a team high, and seven assists. Kyra Cree had six service points and four kills. Morgan Arquette served three points with one kill. Kylee Smoke tallied 27 sets. For B-M, Ally Beachy had nine service points, four aces and four kills. Mackenzie Greenwood also served nine points. Stephanie Perry (seven kills), Brynn LaPage (six kills, two aces) and Kaelin Soulia all served six points.
Salmon River will play the the winner of the Class B semifinal, either Ogdensburg or Malone, on Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. at Massena High School.
The Massena Raiders wrapped up their near-perfect regular season with wins over Canton and Ogdensburg. Their Ogdensburg win was on Thursday, Oct. 25. They won 3-1 with scores of 25-17, 25-13, 22-25 and 25-7.
"Seven seniors had a great night of volleyball, I would like to recognize all of them and give a big congrats on the level of play they upheld all night, setter Teres Jacobs, hitters Maria Sbaffo and Kaylee Smoke, middles Gabby Durant and Octavia Viskovich and amazing passers Rebecca Castleman and Ariena Kirkey! They are a great group of young ladies and will be missed next year," Coach Maggie Farrell wrote in an email.
Two nights earlier, Massena swept Canton 25-11, 25-16 and 25-8. Maria Sbaffo had 10 straight service points in the opening set.
Massena earned an automatic Class A championship. Their next post-season matches are to be determined.
