Massena unable to get past OFA, but still headed for Class A title match

Massena was unable to pull off a win in their final regular season game of 2018, but they will head to playoffs to contend for the Section 10 Class A title.

The Raiders will play hosts Canton on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1:30 p.m. in the opening round of post-season play. Massena ends the 2018 regular season in seventh place in Section 10 with a 0-8 record.

Dylan Lazore, who joined the team partway into the Raiders' fall schedule, tallied 13 tackles during the regular season.

In their Oct. 19 game against Ogdensburg Free Academy, the Blue Devils took a 37-14 win.

Quarterback Dominic Monacelli went 3-6 passing for 34 yards. He gained three yards rushing on three attempts. Zack Goolden ran 141 yards on 24 carries and caught two passes for 20 yards. Ian McDermott and David Hutchison (one touchdown) each ran 35 yards on three carries. McDermott also caught one pass for 14 yards. Ethan Miller made it 35 yards on five carries and scored Massena's other touchdown. Chris Paige carried the ball once for three yards.

On defense, Goolden made 10 tackles, Monacelli and Dylan Bullock eight apiece, Miller seven, McDermott five, David Bowers four, Hutchison and Michael Kuhn two each and Jarrett Reed, Preston Gunyup, Preston Dunn and Tyler McDonald one each.

On special teams, McDonald returned two kickoffs for 20 yards and Paige returned one for 20 yards. Kuhn punted once for 60 yards and kicked off three times that measured a combined 82 yards, including one touchback.
