Generations Park. Despite the delay for the 'Walk Away the Stigma' event, it went off without a hitch on September 28th, 2018. The Walk Away the Stigma was sponsored by the Akwesasne Suicide Prevention Committee. The importance of this walk is not only to spread information on suicide and depression but how to help someone and prevent it from happening. The walk itself was decorated with paper bags along the trail. Each had encouraging messages and a few decorated bags were in memory of those who had committed suicide.
Before the walk, participants had the chance to walk around different tables to learn more about suicide prevention and leading a healthy lifestyle. The main organizer, Chanel Cook, provided a questionnaire to go with each table and provided goodie bags and displayed a board with Sources of Strength for anyone who needed it. Each participant was giving a questionnaire as they walked around they answered questions. At the end, questionnaires were given back for a drawing at the end of the walk.
