A Voice from the Eastern Door

On Thursday, September 20th, the St. Regis Mohawk School Parent Teacher's Organization, along with SMRS teachers and staff, made sure every parent and child felt welcome to the first open house of the school year. Parents were offered pamphlets with information on the PTO, and their upcoming meetings.
One teacher, April Dupra, who is also the only parent on the PTO Committee stated, "Our first PTO meeting is coming up and we would love more volunteers. When it comes to events like the Fall Fest and Parent Teacher Appreciation Day, we would love to see the culture present with the vendors."
At the SRMS Open House every parent and child had the opportunity to meet with their teachers, before or after sitting down to a nice warm dinner, sponsored by the SRMS PTO and Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe.
Assistant Principal Alison Benedict stated, "We would love to have more parent participation. This year's open house had a great turnout, it is the first time in many years that we have had a spaghetti dinner during open house. We hope to have more in the future."
Karin Thompson, PTO Committee stated, "We are really thankful for the turnout tonight. There were much more families, with all their children, who attended the open house. I believe the Spaghetti Dinner was a big factor in why we had such a great turnout."
The St. Regis Mohawk School's PTO is more than happy to have parents attend their meetings, even if it is just one meeting. There are events which run on the hard work of teachers and parents, along with many organizations who donate monies, time or items throughout the school year. Without the hardworking teachers and parents of St. Regis Mohawk School, students may not be able to enjoy all the fun and educational events held throughout the school year that adds to the complete experience of 'a great school year'.
If any parent is interested in checking out the first SRMS PTO Meeting, it will be held on the Library on October 12th. For more information, please contact the St. Regis Mohawk School.
