Salmon River and Massena fall varsity sports got underway on Thursday, Aug. 30 with girls' soccer matches. Massena also kicked off their fall football season with their opening matchup against Potsdam.
Salmon River girls' soccer team took on Gouverneur in a game played in Potsdam.
The Lady Wildcats worked their way to a 2-0 lead at halftime and then went on to score an additional insurance goal in the second half for a 3-0 shutout.
Logan Lazore stood tall in the Lady Shamrocks net with 13 saves. Elaina Porter, Carlee Lumley and Ireland Martin scored for the competition. Abby Riutta turned aside four shots.
The same day in Massena, the Lady Raiders played Indian River with the visiting Lady Warriors claiming a 2-1 decision. Nova LeGrow scored Massena's only goal with 16:32 left on the clock, with a helper from Chloe Violi. Sabella Cromie made three saves. For Indian River, Riley Colvard scored twice in the second half with assists from Jaynee Alcock and Isabella Davis. Clare Moran made four stops.
