Cornwall U16 Selects Softball Place 4th in Ontario Tourney

Submitted by Jason Woodside

What a weekend for the Shoeless Joe's Cornwall Girls U16 Selects Softball team! They went undefeated in round robin and quarter-final action at the Ontario Selects Softball Tournament Association Provincials in Brantford, Ontario on August 18th and 19th. The coaching staff was very proud of the overall effort with balanced offence and defense by all of the team's 10 players. Friday night practices over the spring and summer paid off with a 4th place finish in Ontario.

Highlights of the six games over 2 days include:

• Game 1: 2-1 Win vs. Stouffville: 1 hit allowed and 9 Ks by Sierra Woodside, game winning run by Maylee Larkin

• Game 2: 5-4 Win vs. Orleans: Great pitching by Kristi St.-Denis against a very strong Orleans team to allow only 6 hits and earned 7 Ks, winning run scored by Kennah Delage

• Game 3: 8-4 Win vs. Etobicoke: 7 hits allowed and 3 Ks by Ieronhenehtha Lazore

• Game 4 (Quarter-final): 7-2 Win vs. Forest Glade, 6 hits allowed and 7 Ks by Kristi St.-Denis

• Game 5 (Semi-final): 8-1 Loss vs. Brampton, 7 hits allowed and 5Ks by Sierra Woodside

• Game 6 (Bronze-medal): 16-11 Loss vs. Topham Park, 10 hits allowed by combined pitching effort from Ieronhenehtha and Kristi

A special thanks to Kevin Larkin and Lasting Impressions Landscaping for being a major sponsor for the team. It was a weekend that players and parents will remember forever and the vision for next season has already begun.

Individuals play the game, but teams beat the odds...and our Cornwall Kinsmen Minor Softball girls sure did!
