A Voice from the Eastern Door
A Kahnawake man was jailed after a high-speed pursuit that started in Malone where vehicles were forced off the road.
State police say on Aug. 21 around 8:13 a.m., they attempted to stop a 2015 Chrysler 200 traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 11 in Malone "at a high rate of speed."
The trooper activated his emergency lights and the operator of the suspect vehicle failed to comply, continuing east on Route 11. After attempts to stop the vehicle, the suspect continued on Route 11 into the town of Clinton at a high rate of speed. The suspect eventually stopped his vehicle in the middle of the highway, according to troopers.
The vehicle accelerated forward, intentionally striking the driver side of a marked State Police unit 1B46, spun around, and began traveling west on U.S. Route 11. The vehicle then ran off the north shoulder of the highway and stopped, according to troopers.
The operator, James M. Nolan, 22, of Kahnawake, Quebec, was taken into custody without further incident. The pursuit reached a top speed of approximately 105 MPH. There were no reported injuries during the incident, according to state police.
Nolan was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of marihuana. He was also cited for upwards of 25 traffic infractions, troopers said.
Nolan was arraigned in the Town of Plattsburgh Court and remanded to the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond, according to state police.
He is to reappear in the Clinton Town Court and Malone Town Court at later dates and times, troopers said.
