The Founder's Cup 2018 Championship Games

The Junior B Founder's Championship games took place on Saturday, August 18th. After playing their hearts out for the last week, the final teams were playing for their spot in the top three. The bronze game was held at 2:00 pm, with the Coquitlam Adanacs playing the Manitoba Blizzard for the bronze. After playing a close game through all three periods, the Coquitlam Adanacs won by the skin of their teeth with a score of 9 to 8. The game was nothing short of entertaining. The official stats for the bronze game were announced with Coquitlam having scored 9 goals and 21 penalties. The Manitoba Blizzard showed true sportsmanship throughout the game. Manitoba's officials stats were announced with 8 goals and 6 penalties. All in all the bronze game was nothing short of entertaining, getting everyone hyped up for the championship game.

The championship game began at 5:00 pm, with the Seneca War Chiefs playing the Elora Mohawks for the gold. The two teams were ready for the showdown off the week, coming head to head with some of the best players in the Junior B league. The game was close throughout the first period, with the Elora Mohawks taking the lead by the second period. By the end of the game the Elora Mohawks had a significant lead of 9 to 5, taking the gold. Once all was said and done, each team was able to put their pride aside and show true sportsmanship. The official stats for the Elora Mohawks were 9 goals and 5 penalties. The Seneca War Chiefs official stats for the game was 5 goals and 9 penalties.

Ending the Junior B Founders Cup, the CLA Representatives announced the All Star Teams for group A and B. Group A consisted of the Elora Mohawks, Mohawk Medicine Men, Manitoba Blizzard and Saskatchewan Swat. Group B consisted of The Seneca War Chiefs, Calgary Shamrocks, North Shore Kodiaks and Coquitlam Adanacs. The Group A All Star Team was announced as Cole Spear-Elora Mohawks, Kelson Boriseko-Manitoba Blizzard, Kurtis Woodland-Elora Mohawks, Dalton McGinnis-Mohawk Medicine Men, Bryce Dueck-Saskatchewan Swat and Landon Kells-Elora Mohawks. The Group B All Star Team was announced as Beau Chetner-Coquitlam Adanacs, Clay Scanlan-Seneca War Chiefs, Ron John-Seneca War Chiefs, Kale Lundell-Calgary Shamrocks, Anthony Desmarais-North Shore Kodiaks and Troi Benedict-Seneca War Chiefs.

After the All Star teams were announced, the silver medals were handed out to each team member on the Seneca War Chiefs, with one of their most valuable players being Troi Benedict, who played goalie. Once all the silver medals were handed out, the gold medals and Founders Cup Trophy were handed out. This year's gold went to the Elora Mohawks. One of the Most valuable players for the winning team was Landon Kells, who also played goalie. Kyle Goss, Elora Mohawks Head Coach stated "It feels awesome, it's a dream we had and it came true. I am so proud of the boys, they did all the work, my job is easy. I am really happy we played well and it was such a great experience. The Medicine Men did a great job hosting the tournament." The Founder's Cup has come to an end, but hopefully it will not be the last time it is hosted here Akwesasne.
