Akwesasne veterans and their families to be honored at NY State Fair

Families of Veterans - we invite you to the New York State Fair Indian Village on Indian Day, Friday, August 31, 2018. We, the Iroquois Nation Legionnaires are sending out an open invitation to families of veterans who have passed on since September 2016, to attend the honor ceremony at 2:15pm. Veterans will be introduced and thanked for their service.

Honor Guards from the Seneca Nation, American Legion Post 1479, the Sons of the American Legion and members of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police will be in attendance.

Louis Oakes, Barney Rourke and Jack Leaf, three of the four surviving WWII veterans will be in attendance with their family members.

If you and/or a family member plan to attend Indian Day Veterans Honor Ceremony, please contact Alma Ransom to confirm your attendance. Mrs. Ransom can be reached at 518 358 4400.

Information is needed for many veterans, such as which department of defense they served, where the veteran served and when. Any additional information from surviving family members would be greatly appreciated. Please contact the number above to provide any identifying information on Akwesasronon veterans.
