Kateri Hall - On June 21st, the Let's Get Healthy Program held an event to celebrate International Yoga Day. For all ages from young to old, yoga has been proven to be very important for mind and body as well as an form of relaxation. There are many different forms of yoga that all promote a healthy lifestyle in their own way. International Yoga Day was celebrated from 6am to 8pm with demonstrating different styles of yoga.
To help promote this day, the program brought in instructors who were proficient in the different styles of yoga, such as Vinyasa, Buti Yoga, Chakra Yoga, and many more. There was also a demonstration called Laugha Yoga, with instructions by Bharata Wingham, an ambassador for Laugha Yoga.
At the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe they also had a booth that promoted Snipe Clan Botanicals, which is a small business run by Sateiokwen Bucktooth. She sells organic and traditional medicines in hopes of bringing the people of Akwesasne back to natural herbs and medicines.
The day ended with sound meditation at sunset, which uses soothing sounds to help participants meditate and relax. A perfect way to end the day dedicated to yoga, especially with the sun setting with everyone participating finding a peaceful way to end the day. Yoga is an activity that can help with stressful days and a great step in getting healthy.
