CHARLOTTE FRANCIS (LAZORE)

ST. REGIS, QC - Charlotte Francis, 93, of 78 Akwesasne Street, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at the Tsiionkwanonhso:te Nursing Home on Cornwall Island.

Charlotte was born on November 2, 1926 on Yellow Island, QC, daughter of the late Peter and Susan Arquette Lazore. She attended schools in Akwesasne, and married John Francis.

She was a member of the St. Regis Catholic Church, the Singer and Dance, and Mohawk Choir. Charlotte was a homemaker, having also worked at a shoe factory in Watertown and bartending in Carthage. She was a Native American Activist, believing and standing up for Native rights. She enjoyed Bingo, reading, playing cards, cooking and especially loved children.

Charlotte is survived by her nephew Arnold Lazore, nieces Caroline Lazore; Joanne Lazore; and Tina Lazore; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Lazore; great nieces and nephews, Susan Lazore; Teresa Lazore, Peter Lazore; Owen Lazore, Orlando Lazore; Rachel Williams, Abraham King, and Mercedes Clark, 19 Great-great nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John, and two brothers, Albert Lazore on June 6, 2013; and Michael Lazore on November 5, 1987; and one sister, Annie Deer on January 14, 1991; and her dear friends, Gloria Marquis and Madeline David.

Friends called at Kateri Hall from Monday until Wednesday, when a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Regis Catholic Church, with Rev. Jerome Pastores celebrating. Burial will be held in the spring at Kateri Cemetery.
