A Voice from the Eastern Door

Motivational Speaker and Hip Hop Artist K.A.S.P. Will Present Workshop in Akwesasne March 28th & 29th

In this two day event, on March 28th and March 29th at the AMCR Winter Ballroom; comes the Hip Hop Artist, K.A.S.P Sawan to give a workshop based around empowering and inspiring Native youth in times of struggle. K.A.S.P. (Keeping Alive Stories for the People) Rob Sawan is someone who grew up in such struggle, having lived in the rough side of East Vancouver. Surrounded by drugs and alcohol abuse and constantly in and out of child welfare services added to the trauma no child should ever experience; his only escape was his music.

As he struggled with his own problems with drugs and alcohol, he found that music was a positive source for him. It led him away from his problematic habits and eventually he began to use his music to tell his story. His story, while often tragic, was something that he could tell to other native youth to show them there are other paths to take that don't involve drugs and alcohol. Now, after winning several awards as an artist and as a motivational speaker, he wants to share his wisdom and craft to Native youth across Canada.

This two-day event will help youth aspire to be better people and to find their own craft that makes them happy. He hopes to encourage them to confront any personal trauma they have and turn it into their strength. He also hopes to spread his message to not only the youth, but also to anyone who needs to hear it. Everyone needs encouragement, inspiration, and strength and Sawan knows that his message will do just that.
