A Voice from the Eastern Door
The theme of the day was the future powwow dancers of today and they put on a big show.
The Seventh Annual event was held at the former IGA building in Hogansburg last Saturday and as happens annually the building was filled to capacity with proud family members watching their young ones dancing with pride.
Before the festivities there was a moment of silence to honor the late John Thomas whose contributions to preserving Haudenosaunee culture are well known and celebrated.
On the sidelines were plenty of local food and arts and crafts vendors.
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Community Health and Wellness program and the American Legion Post 1497 were recognized as event sponsors. The young ones put on a big performance and they will be doing that again at the big powwow on Kawehno:ke in the coming years.
