LENTEN REGULATIONS
ABSTINENCE FROM MEAT--Catholics over 14 years of age are bound to the obligation of abstinence on Ash Wednesday and on ALL FRIDAYS OF LENT. On days of abstinence, meat may not be used at all.
FASTING--Catholics over 18 and up to the beginning of their 60th year are bound to the obligation of fasting on Ash Wednesday and GOOD FRIDAY. On these days, only one full meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed.
Regarding other weekdays of Lent, participation in daily Mass and the voluntary observance of fasting is recommended. Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving are keynotes of Lent.
EASTER DUTY: All Catholics who have reached the age of reason must confess their serious sins in the Sacrament of Penance at least once a year. They must also receive Holy Communion at least once each year between the First Sunday of Lent (February 18, 2018) and Trinity Sunday (May 27, 2018).
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
During Lent, Father Jerome will be available to hear confession on Saturdays from 3:00 – 3:45 PM and Sundays from 9:00 – 9:45 AM.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Each week during Lent the Stations of the Cross will be offered 30 minutes prior to Mass on Saturdays and Sundays. ALL PARISHIONERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.
