Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Honors Three Heroes

Akwesasne – The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Tribal Council honored three tribal members today with Community Recognition Awards for their contributions to the Akwesasne community. Carl White, Dwight Bero and Richard Dick Laffin were recognized at the February 3, 2018 Tribal Meeting for their bravery, courage and service in responding to dangerous incidents. Joining in the special presentation were members of the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, which included a standing ovation from around 75 community members.

The Community Recognition Awards is a new initiative that will continue to honor individuals who are a great asset to our community. It is a way to recognize individuals who are an integral part of how we are all "Working Together to Build a Better Tomorrow."

Carl, Dwight and Dick serve as an inspiration to others who also desire to serve our community with honor, integrity and selflessness. Each honoree stated how proud they are to live in this community and how fellow community members stepped up in the moment of need, such as Kim Terrance, the HAVFD firefighters and many others.
