Help Support 4-H Camp Overlook's Scholarship Fund

Submitted by Andrew Carpino

Even though we are facing negative temperatures, everyday the amount of sunlight grows along with the thoughts of warm summer months on the lakes at Camp Overlook. More than 800 campers from Summer 2017 are right now staying warm and waiting patiently for another life-changing summer. 2018 is gearing up to be another amazing summer, and Camp staff is looking forward to that first day of camp. Unfortunately, in these hard economic times, a week at camp is simply a financial difficulty for many families in the community. Thanks to generous donations in the past, 4-H Camp Overlook has been able to help many deserving local youth attend camp. As a not-for-profit, camp is asking for the community's help to refill our 2018 scholarship fund and make camp a reality for youth across the Franklin and St. Lawrence Counties.

In 2017, scholarships were given to over 85 campers that would otherwise not have been able to attend camp. That was a 37% increase from the previous year, and Camp Overlook hopes to match or even surpass that number this summer.

By making a tax deductible donation of any amount to the scholarship fund, community members become a vital part of the Camp Overlook family, and provide youth the opportunity to experience Camp's wide variety of fun, hands-on activities, develop important leadership skills, increase self-confidence, and make lifelong memories.

There are a few options for people wanting to donate. Cash or checks of any amount can be sent to the camp office in Malone, with checks being made out to "4-H Camp Overlook" with "Scholarship Fund" in the memo. Donations can also be made online on the CCE website at http://franklin.cce.cornell.edu/program-payment. Donators are also encouraged to include a letter about why those choose to donate to camp, and their preference for the County they would like to sponsor a youth from. These scholarships are available to ALL Franklin and St. Lawrence County youth in need of financial assistance.

For more information or if you have any questions, please call 518-483-4769. Camp Overlook thanks the entire community for their continued support and willingness to help make an amazing summer a reality for North Country youth.
