A Voice from the Eastern Door

What do 4H members do when the weather outside makes horseback riding activities, dog training and goat gatherings a real challenge? They get together for the annual Winter Horse, Dog, & Goat Symposium to explore animal science topics taught by area veterinarians, professionals, and highly skilled volunteers. It’s also a great time to catch up with 4H family and friends and to plan spring through fall hands-on activities.
This year’s line-up of presentations include: Lyme Disease in Equines, How does Vitamin E affect your horse’s performance and temperament, West Nile Virus is in the North Country, Horse Training, Canine Health Care, Utilizing Goat Milk, Don’t Forget the Birds (make a bird feeder), and Toxic Plants in Your Pastures. Activities for younger youth will be available.
4H Animal Science programs are open to all youth age 5-18 and include poultry, dairy, beef, horse, goat, dog, small ruminants and pet animal programs. Curriculum is available that is both science based and engaging.
Event will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the North Star facility on Creighton Rd, Malone, NY from 9:30 am-2:00 pm. The Symposium is open to 4H members from Franklin and surrounding counties, their families and those interested in becoming involved in the 4H program. This event is sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension Franklin County and is free to attend. Pre-registration is required.
