A Voice from the Eastern Door
Cornwall – Jan. 3 2018 – The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) in The United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry (SDG) & Prescott-Russell has teamed up with former Ottawa Senator, and Long Sault native, Jesse Winchester to raise awareness about cancer in our community. Jesse is partnering with CCS in the fight against cancer by helping raise money to support the organization’s services, including its critical transportation program.
In November, CCS announced a three-year partnership with the National Hockey League (NHL) and National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) as part of their Hockey Fights Cancer campaign.
Nicholle Anderson – wife of Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson and cancer survivor – has been named an official Hockey Fights Cancer™ ambassador. In 2016, Nicholle was diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, a rare form of cancer that affects the nose and throat. Following several months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she officially became cancer-free in May 2017.
The campaign, which is uniting the hockey community by rallying players, coaches, and fans to raise awareness is only strengthened by the backing of people like Jesse. Funds raised through Hockey Fights Cancer will support CCS’s lodges, support services and transportation programs.
Help do your part to “ice” cancer by attending the “Get Fit with the Pros” workout hosted by Jesse and Summit Fitness on January 20. To register or to find out more information about the event contact Allison at the Canadian Cancer Society in Cornwall at 613-932-1283.
