A Voice from the Eastern Door
AKWESASNE – Mrs. Margaret L. Buckshot, 76, of 112 Buckshot Road, Kawehnoke, peacefully entered the Spirit World early Saturday morning, December 16, 2017 at her home with her family and friends by her side.
Margaret was born December 31, 1940 in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Mike Mathias and Louise (LaForce) Papineau and was raised in Akwesasne.
Margaret was a dedicated mother and grandmother, who worked at various companies in Syracuse and Akwesasne throughout her life. She cherished the activities with her family, especially her grandchildren and loved doing laundry for anyone who asked. Her home was her happy place where she grew her plants, enjoyed reading, cooking, and watching NCIS. She also enjoyed playing bingo and was an avid bowler while living in Syracuse. Margaret was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church and a member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group.
Margaret is survived by her children, Sharon Walling, Deidra Reed, Charles "Chaz" Tomlin, Kathleen Rao, William (Cindy) Buckshot, Tracey (Scott) Buckshot-Duciaume, Kelly Buckshot, Peter Jr. (Fionna) Buckshot, Kevin (Joni) Buckshot, Shannon and Amanda Buckshot; chosen children Clara Smoke Burke, Lorna Leaf Herne, and Michael and Jake Buckshot; 33 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Beverly and Mary Papineau; her brothers, Dennis, Arthur, Michael, and Timothy Papineau; her chosen sisters, Pauline and Veronica Thompson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Peter Sr. on September 5, 1986.
Friends called at her home, and a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in December at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group.
