GLORIA M. COOK - "KAHENTÓKWAS"

AKWESASNE – Mrs. Gloria M. Cook, Kahentókwas, Wolf Clan, 79, a resident of Iakhihsohtha Home for the Elderly peacefully entered back into the Spirit World on the afternoon of December 31, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born December 16, 1938 on Kawehno:ke (Cornwall Island), the daughter of the late Samuel and Julia Peters David. She was married to Horace Joseph Cook of Onondaga Nation for 40 years until his passing on November 18, 2004.

Gloria worked for a time at the Carrier Corporation and later retired from Anheuser-Busch in Syracuse. She was a member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid canner of her goods. She also took enjoyment in crocheting, sunning herself while doing crossword puzzles and loved the company of her dogs.

Gloria is survived by her children, Darryl Martin (Diane) of Kahnawake, Roger Cook (Angela) and Angus Cook (Sandra) of Onondaga Nation, Alicia Cook (Dunn), Melerena Back (Abraham), Rosebud Cook, Brenda Cook (Ray) of Akwesasne; 27 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Louise Cook, Mabel White, and Sharon Garrow; her brother, Michael David; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends called at the home of her son, Roger, from Monday until Wednesday, when her funeral service was held at the home. Burial will follow in the family cemetery on Drum Street Road.
