On Tuesday, December 12, several members of the Akwesasne Convenience Store Association presented the Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs with a check for $10,000. This landmark donation is the first of its kind to the Mohawk Nation. According to Turtle Clan Chief Eddie Gray, the Mohawk Nation has never accepted any donation from any organization or government. Working in cooperation with Mohawk Nation, ACSA is able to guarantee 'price parity' on all sales of cartons of cigarettes across Akwesasne. The collection of .15 cents on the sale of every carton of cigarettes enables ACSA to make this type of donation on a regular basis.
Pam Brown stated, "The Akwesasne Convenience Store Association will be making a monthly donation to the Mohawk Nation. We've been working together since June. It's a win - win situation for everyone involved."
