The Massena Raiders varsity basketball team sailed to their first 2017-18 win over Norwood-Norfolk, while the boys hockey team lost twice at a weekend tournament in Pittsford and the girls hockey team narrowly lost a non-league bout.
The girls hockey team downed Norwood-Norfolk 56-32 on Nov. 30. After leading 28-13 at the half, Massena sealed their win with a decisive 22-5 run in the third stanza. Lexis Jacobs scored six points, as did Baylie Trumble. Sydnee Carroll and Paige Perry led the offense with eight points each. Erin McCarthy scored five points, Octavia Viskovich four, and Alayna Taraska, Hannah Greco, Ava LaValley, Al'Lainya Dumas and Alyssa Eubank two each. Hannah Mallette scored a game-high 10 points for N-N.
The girls hockey team played against Skaneateles in a non-league game at Massena Arena on Dec. 2 and lost 3-2.
The boys hockey team traveled to Pittsford for a tournament on Dec. 1 and 2. Their Friday game was against Fairport, and they lost 4-1. Patrick Barclay scored the lone goal. They lost to Suffern 3-2 on Saturday. Rob Southwick and Nick Morrell scored. Nate Moffett turned aside 18 shots and Morrell was named to the All-Tournament Team.
