FRANK J. McCOMBER

MASSENA – Mr. Frank J. McComber passed away Sunday morning, December 3, 2017 at Massena Memorial Hospital at the age of 95.

Frank was born October 14, 1922 in Kahnawake, Quebec, the son of the late Angus and Mary Captaine McComber. On February 8, 1947, he married Marguerite Fetterly; she predeceased him on November 8, 1998.

Frank was a WWII Veteran serving as a heavy machine gunner in Northern France, Rhineland and was in Normandy on D-Day. For his distinguished service, he received the World War II Victory medal, American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Services Medal and a Purple Heart. Frank spent his career as a laborer with Massena Local 322. He enjoyed fishing, puttering and taking care of his lawn.

Frank is survived by his daughters, Jody McComber of Massena, Ruth Ramos of Massena, and Jerry McComber of Canton; his grandchildren, Jamie and Courtney McComber of Arlington, VA, Vincent and Jill Winters of Lisbon, and Jenna Chamberlain of Waddington; and Zachary and Peter Paige of Canton; and his great grandchildren, Ava Rae Winters and Brooks Patton McComber; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his babies, Tyler and Gabby who gave him love and companionship.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jessie Chamberlain in 1995, a son-in-law, John Ramos in 2003; and his siblings, Louise, Michael, Celina, Ida, John, Lawrence, and Grace.

At his request there will be no services. A memorial meal celebrating his life was held on Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Andrew W. Cook American Legion Post #1479.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Potsdam Animal Shelter.
