AMPS Makes Donation to Akwesasne Cancer Support Group

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service donated $350 to the Akwesasne Cancer Support Group. The donation was presented to Sheila Oakes and Kenny Oakes on Friday, December 1, 2017 – World AIDS Day, also known as Red Ribbon day. Akwesasne community members were encouraged to wear red or a red ribbon to raise awareness and support for people living with HIV. The red ribbon is the universal symbol. The red ribbon continues to be a powerful force in the efforts to increase public awareness of HIV. It has inspired other charities to utilize the symbol, such as the pink breast cancer awareness ribbon.
