A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Massena girls varsity hockey and boys basketball seasons are officially underway.
The hockey team narrowly dropped their opener to Oswego and the basketball squad squeezed past Northeast Clinton by just a single point for their first win.
On Nov. 21, the girls hockey team went into the third period leading 3-1 but were unable to fend back a three-goal barrage. Mackenzie Garrow, an eighth-grader playing goaltender, did well in her varsity debut with 31 saves.
The boys basketball team started their season on Nov. 24 with a 52-51 win over Northeast Clinton in the Muggsy Classic tournament, hosted by Saranac Central. Tyler Bacon led Massena with 20 points and 12 caroms. Kaleb Miller scored 17 points, which included four three-pointers, and pulled down 10 rebounds.
The following day, Massena lost to Saranac Central 58-42 in the tournament championship.
