A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Akwesasne Convenience Store Association donated $10,000 to the Akwesasne Holiday Helpers to assist in giving to more families this holiday season. Members of the ACSA gathered on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 to present the check to organizing members Everett Lazore, Caroline Peters and Kerry Jacobs.
Caroline Peters stated, "We want to express our gratitude to ACSA. It will go a long way in helping us deliver food and toys to more families in Akwesasne. It's the spirit of Akwesasne's generosity that helps us continue to reach our goals."
The Holiday Helpers recently held their Annual Toy and Food drive this past weekend. Donations can be dropped off at the SRMT reception and the SRMT Health Services building. Food Basket applications are available at the Mohawk Indian Housing office on McGee Road, MCA Child and Family Services office and from the receptionist at the SRMT.
Pam Brown, compliance officer for ACSA added, "We are pleased we can assist the community this way. This is possible through licensed cigarette and tobacco sales by the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe and the Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs. The MNCC now receives a set amount of revenue through licensed sales. We are looking forward to increasing the MNCC allotment in the coming months."
