Wild Win Over Rockland

The Akwesasne Wild won their game last weekend on Kawehnoke over Rockland 3-1.

Denise Thompson opened the scoring in the first period as she tipped in a blast from Krystal Peters taken from the face-off circle.

Near the halfway point Rockland’s Jenyka Brondon scored their only goal after a wild goalmouth scramble in front of the Wild net.

Akwesasne had a big chance to pull ahead toward the end of the first period as they buzzed all over the Rockland net. Tia Mitchell grabbed the loose puck and circled their net twice holding onto the puck while looking for someone to pass off to.

She was unable to finish and the period ended 1-1.

Two minutes into the middle frame the Wild ran into penalty trouble. Alicia Thomas and Kristian Ezard were both called for tripping.

Thomas was first to serve and at the same second her two minute rest was over, Ezard took over her seat.

The game went back and forth the rest of the period and in the final few minutes Rockland ran into trouble getting out of their zone. The Wild pounced on the loose pucks and had several chances to go ahead.

The visitors drew two slashing penalties but the Wild were unable to capitalize on the 5 on 3.

In the final seconds Mitchell and Alley Bero missed big chances.

Less than a minute into the third period Jenna Merpaw of the Wild scored on the rebound in a crowded Rockland crease to make it 2-1.

Bero got that earlier missed goal back midway through the period as she broke apart the Rockland defenders and scored up high to finish off the scoring.
