Honey & Pollinator Celebration Hosted By SUNY Potsdam's WISER Center and the Local Living Venture 11/2

POTSDAM -- A public celebration of bees and other pollinators will be the focus of free demonstrations, speakers, music and a film at the Honey Harvest Hoedown & Pollinator Jamboree on Thursday, November 2 on the SUNY Potsdam campus.

The event is free and open to the public with coordination and sponsorship by the WISER Center and the Local Living Venture in partnership with the Potsdam Environmental Club and PACES Dining Services.

The events begin at 4:00 p.m. with a free viewing of the acclaimed film “Queen of the Sun: What Are the Bees Telling Us?” The film is a profoundly different view of the global bee crisis, weaving an unusual and dramatic story of the heartfelt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world.

Following the film, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., will be a round-robin of exhibitions including demonstration beehives, brief presentations by bug-lovers, music, delicious food, a honey harvesting demonstration and much more.

In keeping with the Halloween season there will also be a costume contest. Attendees are encouraged to dress as your favorite pollinator and join in the celebration at SUNY Potsdam’s Stowell Hall/WISER Greenhouse, across from the Barrington Student Union.

Stowell Hall is #8 on the campus map at potsdam.edu/about/visit/maps and costumed attendants will be on hand to guide visitors to the free parking lot next to the new Performing Arts Center. Lawn signs noting ‘Workshop Site’ signs will also be posted.

This event is free of charge and open to the pubic, though free-will donations are welcomed to benefit Local Living Venture Pollinator Protection programming. WISER Center events are always free for SUNY students and this program is made possible in part by funding from a grant by the Alcoa Foundation.

This public celebration is a collaboration between SUNY Potsdam’s WISER Center and the Local Living Venture as part of their Pollinator Protection project. Details can be found at the website bit.ly/PollinatorProgram.
