A Voice from the Eastern Door

Letter to the Editor

To Whom It May Concern,

Tansi, greetings, from the Ininu (Cree) Nation

Let it be known that our hereditary system of governance is still active since time immemorial.

It is our Duty to inform you of our existence and that we are the true and rightful governors of Ininu, Nehiyaw, Nehithaw, Nishiyu, Innu, Mushkego territories, that we are here and we are not going away. No other governing body, namely the CORPORATION OF CANADA does NOT hold Title to our lands according to International Law, natural law, nor to the laws given to us by the Kise Manitou (God, Creator, Great Spirit).

It is our duty by birthright to take care of our territories, and our ininuak, our territory stretches from the Rocky Mountains through to the woodlands, swamps, across the great plains, up into the watershed that drains north into the ocean, and part of the east coast. Kise Manitou-the Great Spirit gave us this land in the beginning, at the time of creation. We have lived, and we desire to live in peace and harmony with the land.

Today we have newcomers (immigrants) on a regular basis, and in large numbers that come to settle within our territories without our consent or consultation. Some of the newcomers respect us, and our ways, and some show disrespect by discarding us, and our interests. Those called the CORPORATION OF CANADA steal our resources in efforts to satisfy their greed. Our ways of living are not greedy and selfish ways. The Ininu, have instructions from God, on how to live in harmony and balance with nature. We, the true traditional government of the Ininu Nation, have never given the CORPORATION OF CANADA, the permission to take our land and rename it, or to extract any natural resources whatsoever, the agreement was for them to do farming and govern themselves, nothing more.

It is of great urgency that the public know that the Ininu Nation continues to protect our land and people, now, for our children and grandchildren, for generations to come.
