A Voice from the Eastern Door

Home Runs for Hawaii

The Can-Am Krush women's lacrosse team is taking a big step in showing the world our female lacrosse skills.

Last weekend in one of their fundraising efforts for this trip to Hawaii the team held a softball tournament at the American Legion in Hogansburg. The teams were the Great Lei's, Deep Fryers, Warriors, the Gramblers, Dacobras and Multiple Scores.

When it was over, the Gramblers won the championship and second place went to DaCobras.

For most of the team this was the first tournament they put together and they could not have pulled it off without help from the business community who pitched in to help.

Jerry Cook of Wild Bills donated concession stand items. Tina's Pride, Philip and Mary Gray, Sam Thompson and Courtney King sponsored teams. Thank you to LOK Creations for the prizes, Casie and Alex "Big Boy" Garrow, Mcduck McDonald for the Scorekeeping, Clearwater Roundpoint, Alannah Thomas, Tony Lafrance, Joe Sawatis, Phil Lazore, Ubbi Thompson and many others.

The Hawaii event is at the end of October and features teams from all over. The program is divided up into men's, women's and youth divisions and in between games they feature clinics and other activities. This being Oahu, they will have after-tournament activities too.

In the past they have hosted the Gait and the Thompson Brothers as well as other players from Major Lacrosse.

An upcoming fundraiser is this Friday, October 13 also at the American Legion in the form of a Trivia Contest and everyone is encouraged to come and support the up coming women's field lacrosse as they hit the international stage in Hawaii.
