2017-2018 Akwesasne Heating Assistance Program

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is notifying the community that the Akwesasne Heating Assistance Program will be offered for the upcoming 2017-2018 winter months. The eligibility application process will now include community members who are residing within the municipal boundary of the City of Cornwall, Ontario, and must be a registered member of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne under the Akwesasne Membership Code.

The application process is open to all community members who reside under the jurisdiction of Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, one per household. Applications can be submitted beginning Monday, October 16, 2017 through Friday, December 1, 2017 at 4p.m.

The final deadline will be Friday December 1, 2017 at 4p.m. There will be no exceptions after the deadline date, as the fuel distribution will commence. As per Mohawk Council Resolution 2017/2018 - #162, the heating assistance amount will be $400.00 dollars per eligible household. Please note, if you are an Elder aged 60 years and older, the Elder Heating Assistance Program provides $600.00 dollars per eligible household.

Individuals submitting applications must provide a copy of the heating bill for the heating source that you would like paid. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS; the bill must accompany your application. Please ensure the name on your bill matches the name on the application. Your bill must accompany your application and will not be returned. Please provide a bill (or copy) upon applying for heating assistance. Individual checks will not be processed. Once approved, your name will be provided to your heating source provider and the heating assistance allotment will be credited to your account.

Applications will be accepted beginning Monday, October 16, 2017 through December 1, 2017 at the following locations:

Tsi Snaihne – Iohahi:io 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Kawehno:ke – A’nowara’ko:wa Arena 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Kana:takon – Kanonhkwatsheri:io– Community Support Program Office 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Evening Hours:

MCA Community Support Program Office

Thursdays starting October 16, 2017 through November 30, 2017 taking applications until 6 p.m.

Weekend Hours:

Iohahi:io in Tsi Snaihne | Saturday, November 4, 2017 | 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Sweet Grass Manor in Kana:takon | Saturday, November 11, 2017 | 8:00 a.m. – 4: 00 p.m.

A’nowara’ko:wa Arena on Kawehno:ke | Saturday, November 18, 2017 | 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
