A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Anowarako:wa Arena was freezing cold as the ice is in the process of being installed for hockey. Outside of the arena it was crazy hot as the women took to the field for lacrosse.
Ottawa U was in town last week as well as McGill University to take part in a mini-tournament with the CAN-AM Krush Women's field lacrosse club.
The Ottawa area team is not sanctioned by the university and they are a club without a league. They travel around and play whoever is available.
The two closest teams are the Akwesasne based women's team and McGill University of Montreal, so the three held the tournament to get some playing time.
The hometown Krush are also looking to do some more travelling for games and they will be holding some fundraisers in the near future. In early October they are hosting a softball tournament and on Friday, October 13 they are holding a Trivia Night. More information will be available soon.
Team members are Kyra Thompson, Hanna Leaf, Victoria Thompson, Charlene "Bineh" Garrow, Cubby Jackson, Elisha King, Tatyana Papineau, Jenna David, Tewash Barnes, Sarah Thompson, Maria Colon, Brittany Benedict, Mindy Delormier and Louise White.
