Ahkwesahsne Homemakers Raising the Temperature with the help of Gentlemen

Submitted by Emmy Mitchell

With the heat wave we are having in Akwesasne and with the help, support and generosity of our community and those around us, the Ahkwesahsne Homemakers were able to raise the temperature again! We are now at $20,000.00 toward our goal of $75,000.00 for the "Parking Lot Paving Project". Niawenko:wa / Thank you everyone for your tremendous support. The Ahkwesahsne Homemakers send you our gratitude and appreciation, because without you, we would not be where we are at today.

This past weekend we were able to support the ball tournament at the Snye Recreation Center with providing the concession. The Ahkwesahsne Homemakers also held an indoor "yard" sale event. Niawen to Snye Recreation for the use of your facility. To Diane and Phil Lazore for organizing the tournament; Emmy, Jingles and parents for encouraging the young ones to come out and play – thank you. It was a fun weekend.

Our next event, the Ahkwesahsne Homemakers will be hosting a fundraising event for one of our members, Sharon Cook. Sharon is going through some difficult health issues right now. On Friday, October 13, 2017 at the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Building, we will start a Mohawk Auction. The time schedule for this day is 10am to 4pm. We will then move all items to the Snye Recreation Center. The Mohawk Auction continues on Saturday, October 14, 10am to 4pm. On Saturday, there will be VOLLEYBALL – Under the Black Lights tournament. Need 10-12 teams, $100 fee. Contact Emmy Mitchell for more information (via Facebook or 315-705-5273).

If you wish to donate an auction item, please feel free to call 613-575-1464 (leave a message) or drop in at the Ahkwesahsne Homemakers on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (October 10-12) evenings 6:30-9:00pm. Niawenko:wa.

A big Niawen Kowa to our Admin Staff behind the scenes, Paula Jacobs, Anne Wheesk Stephanie Lazore-Cole, Kathy Mitchell and Kaherisatke Crystal Henry.
