AMBE Committed To Revitalize The Language

One year intensive language program to be offered

The Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education (AMBE) is making strides to revitalize the Kanien'keha language. In Seskehko:wa/September 2017, AMBE will be offering an intensive language program for five teachers that have a strong desire to learn Kanien'keha. The five teachers are Courtney Thomas, Akat (Harriet) Chubb, Leona Thomas, Shelby Thompson and Ruth Seymour.

"This initiative supports AMBE's long term plan for recharging the language and will support the Immersion Program for the future generations to come. It also supports Mohawk Council of Akwesasne's strategic goal of sustaining, revitalizing, protecting and preserving the Kanien'keha language," stated Donna Lahache, Director of Education.

Funding for this innovative program is provided by the Mohawk Council. AMBE is committed to continue working with post-secondary institutions to construct a strong teacher education program that blends learning the language with learning to teach.
