St. Regis Braves Advance to TNSLL Final Championship Series

Two of Akwesasne’s hometown teams went head-to-head in Three Nations Senior B Lacrosse action, with the St. Regis Braves coming out on top in a best-of-three series.

The Braves won two-games-to-none over the Snake Island Muskies at Massena Arena on July 31 and Aug. 3.

St. Regis will now advance to finals, a best-of-seven series that was to have began Aug. 8 at the A’nowara’ko:wa Arena, past press deadline for this edition. Their next games at the Arena will on Aug. 14 for game three, Aug. 16 for game five and Aug. 17 for game seven. All are at 8:15 p.m.

In the first game, the final score was 14-4. The Braves had scored all the goals they would need in the first 20 minutes, working up to a 5-1 lead by the end of the opening stanza. Ty Thompson, with an assist from Dalston Day, netted what held up as the game-winning goal. St. Regis went on to outscore the Muskies 4-1 in the second period and 5-2 in the closing frame.

Thompson was the game’s offensive leader with two goals and three assists. Also for the Braves, Blake Kenny scored twice and assisted two plays. Angus LeBorgne had three goals with an assist. Jacob Ruest had a goal with three helpers. Geoff McNulty had a pair of goals and a solo assist. Ty Terrance, Jake Lazore and Matt Noble each assisted two plays. Sam Bradman, Dalston Day and Don Moss each had a goal and an assist. Derek Hopps netted a singleton. Goalkeeper Lazore was credited a win.

For Snake Island, Akwi David led offensively with a goal and two assists. Jordan Thomas, Ahta Lazore and Justin Oakes each scored single goals with an assist. Scott Thompson had two assists and Jordy Mitchell fashioned a solo helper.

In game two, the Braves railed five straight unanswered goals later followed by a sixth from Geoff McNulty, which would hold up to win the series for St. Regis. The Braves outscored the Muskies 4-0 in the first period, 3-2 in the second and 4-3 in the third for an 11-5 final score. Netminder Justin Delormier recorded a loss.

Blake Kenny led the Braves with a goal and four assists. Hopps netted a hat trick. Ruest had three helpers. LeBorgne, Kyle Lewis and McNulty each tallied two goals and an assist. Ty Thompson had two assists. Torrey Bigtree had two assists. Jarrett Jacobs netted a solo goal. Garrow had a single helper. Goalie Bigtree earned the win.

For the Muskies, Ahta Lazore had two goals. Tristan Thompson and Trent Thomas each had a goal and a helper. Dave Thomas assisted two plays. Ross Cree and Aweniio David each had solo helpers. Jordan Thomas scored once. Goalkeeper Kobi Johnson was saddled with the loss.
