A Voice from the Eastern Door
Swamp's Performance held their 5th Annual Cruisin' for Kids Car & Bike Show which took place at the old IGA parking lot, on July 22nd 2017. The event began at approximately 10 am with the car and bike registration. There were also a number of vendors set up for the event. Each vehicle had to pay a $5.00 registration fee, which allowed the owner of the vehicles to be entered into a contest for top 10 cars or top 3 bikes. The vendors also paid a $20.00 registration fee to be set up at the event.
All of the proceeds of the money raised through vendor and vehicle registration went towards this year's beneficiary, which was Iakwa'shatste Youth Fitness. Iakwa'shatste Youth Fitness is a non-profit organization that provides free fitness programming to youth in Akwesasne. The Iakwa'shatste Youth Fitness Program held a noodle hockey tournament at the event.
This year there was power wheels races for children aged 2-8. All children who raced received a trophy, so there was no losers. Akwesasne Chamber of Commerce had a concession set up of which half the proceeds were donated to this beneficiary. One thing that was new and different this year, was the Backyard BBQ cook off set up at the event. The Backyard BBQ cook off also donated some of the proceeds they raised throughout the event to this year's beneficiary, Iakwa'shatste.
There was plenty for the family to come out and enjoy at this year's event. The children really enjoyed the power wheels races and everyone enjoyed checking out all the beautiful cars and bikes. There were new and old vehicles, something for everyone's taste. This year's event had a great turnout, and everyone looks forward to next year's event. The call out for next year's 6th Annual Cruisin' for Kids beneficiary will take place around April 2018. It does not always have to be a sport club or group, last year Hunter's Hope was the beneficiary. This event is for a great cause, our youth. Thanks to Swamp's Performance Automotive for hosting another successful car and bike show, and benefiting the youth of Akwesasne.
