Braves Defeat T-Birds

It had all the markings of a St. Regis Braves blowout but a late third period surge by the Tyendinaga Thunderbirds turned it into a close Three Nations Lacrosse League Senior game. Final score 16-13.

On Wednesday, July 5 the Braves hosted the T-Birds at the Benson Center in Cornwall and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead two minutes into the game. Tyendinaga tied it up shortly afterward but the hosts scored five straight to end the first period 7-2.

Jacob Rust led Braves scorers with three and three assists. Geoff McNulty, Nick Sanseverino, Blake Kenny, Ty Thompson and Brett Bucktooth all scored two each in the win.

Dwight Bero Jr., and Angus Leborgne scored one each and Kenny added five assists while McNulty and Bucktooth pitched in with four assists each.

Seth Oakes scored five for the T-Birds including a late natural hat trick while the visitors were pressing on their comeback.

Ky Tarbell scored his own hat trick and Shayne Jackson added one.

Joe Hall, Ben Green and Abby Bomberry scored one each for Tyendinaga.

The second period ended 13-6 and the runaway lacrosse game was starting to take shape. Both teams traded goals early in the final frame but the T-Birds came back with five straight – including Oakes' three straight – to make it 14-12.

The Braves put an end to that scoring streak with two more before the T-Birds countered with one late goal, but came up short.

In goal Trey Adams took the loss while Torry Bigtree and Jake Lazore shared in the win.
