The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne hosted a ceremony on Friday, May 26, 2017 to honour and recognize employees with anniversary years of service. The Long-Term Service Awards are held annually, giving recognition to employees with 10 or more years of service. Employees are invited to the ceremony when they've reached a milestone year of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and even 45 years of MCA employment.
This year, one employee celebrated the amazing achievement of 45 years of service! Dan Thompson has been with the MCA since the 1970s, and works in the Roads program of the Dept. of Technical Services. Jean Benedict of the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education is also celebrating 45 years of service and will be recognized at a separate ceremony hosted for AMBE's long-term staff during the summer months.
Grand Chief Abram Benedict and MCA Executive Director Jordan Wapass welcomed guests and gave words of encouragement and appreciation to those in attendance.
"As one of the newest employees here, it is my pleasure and honour to sit among some of the longest serving employees here," said Executive Director Jordan Wapass. "I look up to you and respect your dedication to making your community a better place." He also mentioned the value of their corporate memory and encouraged them to share stories of MCA's past with others.
Nia:wen kowa to MCA Employee Advocate Vaughn Phillips who organized and emceed the event with assistance from Brigitte Phillips in Executive Services. Also, nia:wen kowa and iawekon to the Tsi Snaihne Recreation Committee for a delicious traditional meal.
