Akwesasne Holiday Helpers Getting Creative with Fundraising

The Akwesasne Holiday Helpers are trying new ways to raise enough funds to support the upcoming holiday season food basket giveaway.

“Last year we saw a decline in donations, so we made efforts to cut costs and spend more wisely, but the need grew,” stated Gloria Herne, Volunteer Treasurer. She adds, “so we, as a group, have brainstormed to come up with ways to fundraise earlier to identify shortfalls earlier.”

With this being said, the Akwesasne Holiday Helpers are holding a Christmas in July Trivia Night on July 29 starting at 7pm at the Andrew W. Cook Legion, Post 1479. $100 per team and advance payments will receive 100 bonus points. Participants can also earn an extra 50 bonus points if they bring an unwrapped toy the night of the event.

“This is truly a worthy cause to support,” states Lori Thompson, an Akwesasne Holiday Helper Director and Volunteer. Lori continues, “this is one of those community events where we see the needs of our neighbors and knowing if we work together, we can help one another which creates a supportive community, no matter what side of the board you live on.”

The Akwesasne Holiday Helpers are in search of Silent Auction donations or baskets, plus the Akwesasne Holiday Helpers are selling raffle tickets for $10 each for a split prize that totals $20,000 (15 prizes). Drawing will be on September 30th or when all tickets are sold.
