Braves post convincing win over Caughnawaga

MASSENA – The St. Regis Braves decimated the Caughnawaga Indians 20-2 on June 7 at Massena Arena.

Caughnawaga's Hank Delisle scored the opening goal just three seconds into the game. He was answered by an 18-goal barrage from the Braves. The Indians managed their other goal just over a minute into the third period.

Blake Kenny led offensive efforts with four goals and four assists. Geoff McNulty had two goals and five assists. Ty Thompson scored three goals with three helpers. Brett Bucktooth had two goals and three assists. Corey Thompson scored once and assisted four plays. Derek Hopps had a goal and three assists. Dalston Day and Jarrett Jacobs each had two goals and an assist. John Jacobs scored once and assisted a play. Trent Jacobs had two helpers. Don Moss scored twice. Dwight Bero, Angus Laborgne and Mike Lazore each recorded solo assists. Ryan Jacobs scored Caughnawaga's other goal. Nick Angus and Delisle picked up assists.

On June 4, the Braves lost to the Capital Region Axemen at Howard Darwin Centennial Arena, Nepean, Ontario. The teams were tied 3-3 after the first period, traded goals in the second but the Axemen managed to outscore St. Regis 4-2 in the closing frame for the 11-9 final score.

Brett Bucktooth led the Braves offense with four goals and two assists. Kenny logged five helpers. McNulty had a goal and two assists. Hopps scored twice. Thompson and Laborgne each notched a goal and a helper. Bero and Randall Seymour each had single assists.

Mark Vradenburg led the Axemen with four goals and two assists. Curtis Singleton had four assists. Aaron Woods scored once and assisted two plays. Jordan Joncas had two assists. Spencer Corkey scored twice. Jason Crooke had two helpers. Ryan Dewar and Fred Hartley each had one goal and one assist. Raj Wasson and Dan Gawne each logged solo helpers. Nevan Sullivan and Thor Grant netted singletons.

Braves Coach Chuck Brown did not return a request for comment.

A June 9 Snake Island Muskies versus Tyendinaga Thunderbirds game at Massena Arena was canceled. Arena officials said it was due to a lack of referees.

The Muskies and Braves were to have played on June 14 at Massena Arena, after press deadline for this edition. They will play again in Massena on June 21 at 8 p.m. The Muskies will take on the Axemen on June 18 at 8 p.m. at the Howard Darwin Centennial Arena in Nepean.
